Why You Should Jump Rope

Intro
Jumping rope is an easily overlooked exercise that should not be underestimated. It is a highly effective exercise for almost anyone. Jumping rope can be done to train for sports, stay in shape, and or for recreational purposes. The low start up cost and convenience factors makes it a great exercise that anyone can get into. I’ve come up with some great information to share with you about jump roping and why it’s so great.
Cardio Exercise
Jump roping is a great cardio work out that can really get your heart pumping. It’s a full body workout that hits all your major muscle groups, working your lower and upper body. Being that it is a full body workout it is a great way to burn calories and build your endurance with the right routine.

Jumping rope is very easy to get started in. All you need is one piece of equipment, the jump rope, and some open space. That’s it and now you can get a complete workout. Jump roping is also relatively simple to learn and can accommodate different fitness levels and athleticism. For some it may be frustrating in the beginning, but do little practice and get the basics down and you will notice it is a very enjoyable exercise. Once you got the basics you’ll be expand your skills and use it as a training tool if you’d like.
Recreational
Jumping rope doesn’t have to be related to fitness either you can do it for fun. This is a fun exercise that anyone can do by themselves or with others.

Another great thing about jumping rope is the convenience that it offers. Its portable so you can bring it anywhere and get a complete workout. Woven ropes work well for beginners with its gentle lash backs when you mess up and slow pace. Leather and speed ropes are better for the intermediate to advanced users for the speed with which you jump at. Jump Rope Techniques
Jumping rope has no one way to do it. It offers many variations that you can do or whatever you can come up with. Below I’ve listed some of the common ways to jump rope.
- Basic jump – a simple single jump
- Switch foot jump – is alternating from one foot to another
- Criss-cross – is where you cross the rope in your jump
- Double under – is where you the rope goes under your feet twice with one jump.

Jumping rope is great exercise that I love to do. Its such a versatile exercise that anyone can get into. Get creative with the jump rope and you can create some great workouts.
